Mini Mandala Making for Kids

This is an in-person workshop hosted in Doncaster, DN12; please do not buy this service if you are unable to come in person.

This session is based loosely on our Crystal Healing Mandala sessions which we run to coincide with the Wheel of the Year but this one is aimed specifically at kids.

This is a beautiful opportunity to spend some time with your small person/people while also introducing them lightly to this healing modality.

As our kids work on their mandalas, they can begin to tap into their creativity and intuition.

We won't be dissecting the mandalas like we do in the usual sessions - this is purely about bonding and having fun while incorporating a little magical (and gentle!) energy healing in there, too.

We'll be using natural resources such as petals and leaves while making these mandalas - pens and pencils will also be available.

Provided at the workshop:

  • Water, juice or tea/coffee
  • Snacks; cucumber, carrots, biscuits
  • Paper
  • Pens, pencils
  • Natural resources; flowers, leaves, twigs
  • Company

This workshop is hosted and led by Arte's Den.

Please note that this is not childcare; a grown-up must stay with their child at all times and will be responsible for their child throughout.

You know your child best and whether they'd be able to take part in this session or not, but I'd recommend from 3 years up with no upper limit, so long as they don't mind younger children.

£12.50 for one grown up and child - additional grown ups/children are £5.00 each. Young children who will not be participating (such as babies and very young toddlers) are free to attend.

We have four children of our own and understand how expensive it can get for larger families therefore we have put this discounted fee in place to support families; we trust that this will not be taken advantage of by separate families combining for a discount.

If you'd like to commission your own group booking at a time to suit you (and location where possible), please get in touch so we can have a natter and work out the details contact@artesden.co.uk

We look forward to sitting with you in circle.

More about Mandalas and Mandala Therapies

The word mandala means "circle" in Sanskrit. Mandalas are found in various places all over the world such as India, Tibet and China and play an important role for Hindus and Buddhists. A circle is considered a sacred form as it has no beginning nor end.

Carl Jung (a Swiss psychoanalyst, psychiatrist, and founder of analytical psychology) stated that mandalas were the “archetypes of wholeness”. Jung observed that:

  • When making a mandala, it was a representation of that person as a whole in that moment
  • The process of making a mandala presented the opportunity for inner understanding and wholeness
  • Making mandalas had a calming and focusing effect

Mandala therapy is now a widely used tool amongst psychologists and art therapists.

FAQ’s

Q: Do I need to bring anything with me?

A: No, just your lovely self and your young human(s)!

Q: Do I need to be good at art or be creative?

A: Absolutely not! This isn’t about creating an art piece; it’s about being mindful, having fun and bonding. Of course, the outcome may be something beautiful, but that’s not necessarily the goal.

Q: Will we get to keep our mandala?

A: For Buddhists, mandalas are traditionally destroyed upon completion to serve as a reminder of the impermanence of life - but we fully appreciate that children will likely not feel this way and will want to keep their mandalas! As such, glue will be provided at the workshop, so as long as they choose to pop their mandala on paper, then yes, it can be taken with you. It may be worth considering how you will transport it home - perhaps a plastic bag to protect the car etc from wet glue.

Q: What age range is this for?

A: You know your child best and whether they'd be able to take part in this session or not, but I'd recommend from 3/4 years up with no upper limit, so long as they don't mind/can behave appropriately around younger children.

Please note that this is not childcare; a grown-up must stay with their child at all times and will be responsible for their child throughout.

Q: What is the cost per person?

A: The cost is £12.50 for one grown up and child (in total). Additional grown ups/children are £5.00 each. Young children who will not be participating (such as babies and very young toddlers) but will be accompanying you, are free to attend.

We have four children of our own and understand how expensive it can get for larger families therefore we have put this discounted fee in place to support families; we trust that this will not be taken advantage of by separate families combining for a discount.

Address and Parking

The address will be provided in advance of the workshop; please check your e-mails. We are located in Doncaster, DN12.

Bus stops are located within a couple of minutes walk of the property and the train station is approximately 16 minutes walk (but it is up a steep hill!)

Accessibility

Weather permitting, this workshop will be held outside in a bell tent - if this is the case then it will be accessible by wheelchair, however, the toilet is located upstairs and there is a drive which is quite steep to get up. We can send photos/videos of access if required, just pop us an email at contact@artesden.co.uk and we'll be happy to help. If the weather is poor and it's hosted inside, then the house itself is not wheelchair accessible; unfortunately it's an old property and there are steps.

For anyone with allergies, we also have a cat who will not be in the room at the time.

Any further questions? Please pop an email to contact@artesden.co.uk
